Ulf M. (Mark) Schneider, Chairman of the Management Board
Ulf M. (Mark) Schneider, 46, is the Chairman of Management Board of Fresenius (equivalent to President and CEO). He joined Fresenius in November 2001 and served as Chief Financial Officer of Fresenius Medical Care before assuming his current position on May 28, 2003. Previously, he was Group Finance Director for Gehe UK plc., a pharmaceutical wholesale and retail distributor, in Coventry, United Kingdom. Ulf M. Schneider held several senior executive positions since 1989 with Gehe’s majority shareholder, Franz Haniel & Cie. GmbH, a diversified German multinational company. Ulf M. Schneider holds a Lic. oec. degree in Finance and Accounting, a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of St. Gallen and an MBA from Harvard University.
Rainer Baule, CEO Fresenius Kabi
Rainer Baule, 63, joined the Management Board of Fresenius on June 1, 1997 and has been CEO of Fresenius Kabi since May 7, 2001. From 1996 to 1997 he was CEO of EG&G Berthold, Bad Wildbad. Beginning in 1979 he held several leading positions in Germany and the U.S. at Carl Zeiss Group, Oberkochen, most recently as Executive Vice President of a division and as Member of the Zeiss Group Management. Rainer Baule started his professional career as a Management Partner of Komeg-Kontroll-Technik GmbH, Riegelsberg. He holds a degree in Commercial Engineering from TU Darmstadt.
Francesco De Meo, CEO Fresenius Helios
Francesco De Meo, 48, joined the Management Board of Fresenius on January 1, 2008 as the CEO of Fresenius Helios. In 2000, Francesco De Meo became head of the legal and human resources departments of HELIOS Kliniken GmbH. On January 1, 2001, he was appointed to the HELIOS Kliniken Management Board with responsibilities for human resources, legal affairs, research and science. At the same time, he was also appointed Labor Relations Director. Before joining HELIOS, Francesco De Meo was director of Rauser AG, a management consultancy in Reutlingen, as well as a practicing attorney. He studied law and earned a doctorate at Tübingen University.
Jürgen Götz, Chief Legal and Compliance Officer, and Labor Relations Director
Jürgen Götz, 48, has been Chief Legal and Compliance Officer and the Labor Relations Director of Fresenius since July 1, 2007. From April 1, 2005 until his appointment to the Management Board, Jürgen Götz led the Legal and Insurance Department of Fresenius AG as Senior Vice President and General Counsel. He began his career in 1993 at Hoechst AG, where he held several senior management positions. In 1997, he became head of the Legal Department of Hoechst Marion Roussel AG. In 1999, Jürgen Götz took over the Legal – Global Corporate department of Aventis Pharma AG, the successor company to Hoechst Marion Roussel. Jürgen Götz studied law in Bonn, Munich and Frankfurt am Main, where he also earned his doctorate.
Ben Lipps, CEO Fresenius Medical Care
Ben J. Lipps, 71, has been Chairman of the Management Board and CEO of Fresenius Medical Care since May 1, 1999, and a member of the Management Board of Fresenius since March 16, 2004. He was President, CEO, Chief Operating Officer and a director of Fresenius USA from October 1989 through February 2004, and served in various capacities with Fresenius USA’s predecessor from 1985 through 1989. In 1966, Ben Lipps joined Dow Chemical Company where he led the research team that developed the first commercial Hollow Fiber Artificial Kidney at the end of the 1960s. Ben Lipps earned his master’s and doctoral degrees at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Stephan Sturm, Chief Financial Officer
Stephan Sturm, 48, has been Chief Financial Officer of Fresenius since January 1, 2005. Prior to that, he was a Managing Director of Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB), from 2000 as Head of Investment Banking for Germany and Austria, and also served on CSFB’s European Management Committee. During his more than thirteen years in investment banking, Stephan Sturm held various executive positions with BHF-Bank, Union Bank of Switzerland and CSFB in Frankfurt and London. Prior to entering investment banking in 1991, he was a management consultant at McKinsey & Co in Duesseldorf and Frankfurt. Stephan Sturm holds a degree in Business from Mannheim University.
Ernst Wastler, CEO Fresenius Vamed
Ernst Wastler, 52, has served as CEO of VAMED AG since July 1, 2001, and joined the Fresenius Management Board on January 1, 2008. Ernst Wastler became a member of the VAMED AG Management Board in 1998 and was responsible for projects and services central Europe. Prior to that, he held several management positions at international business segments of the VAMED Group. His career began in 1981 in international consulting, engineering and project management at Austroplan GmbH in Vienna. Ernst Wastler studied international business at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration and earned a doctorate there in 1983.
